Leeds and Grenville Interval House provides emergency shelter, outreach counseling and transitional support for abused women and their children throughout the Leeds & Grenville area. We offer accommodation, counseling and a 24-hour crisis and support line for women in distress as well as support programs.
We are recruiting for a Residential Manager. This is a full-time position.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Residential Manager supports the needs of abused and at-risk women by managing our emergency residential program and staff. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Residential Manager supports the needs of abused and at-risk women by:
- Supervising and evaluating shelter staff
- Managing referrals
- Maintaining and updating staffing schedules
- Providing back-up to residential counsellors when needed
- Facilitating conflict resolution
- Managing the recruitment, training and volunteer involvement in the shelter
- Supervising and evaluating volunteers
- Ensuring statistics are maintained
- Ensuring groceries and supplies are purchased
- Overseeing and trouble-shooting the data base W.I.S.H
- Being a member of the health and safety committee
- Ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the building, including contacting appropriate service personnel when maintenance or repairs are required
- Being on-call, or assigning a designate to be on call when on leave
- Reporting any issues to the Executive Director
- Assisting in public education efforts when required
- Identifying the needs of abused women in the community and cooperate and work with other community agencies to ensure maximum service delivery to women
- Actively participating in staff meetings
- Other duties as required

- Post-secondary education and/or equivalent work experience in women’s issues
- Three years of management experience in the area of social services
- Knowledge and understanding of women’s issues in a feminist framework particularly violence against women and their children, including living with disabilities, diverse cultures, harm reduction practices, addictions and barriers to safety with a trauma informed approach to all services
- Understanding of the civil and criminal legal system and how it impacts women and children’s lives
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Satisfactory vulnerable checks (PVSC) with future checks every three years

- Communicate effectively and assertively
- Work in crisis situations
- Provide supervision to the residential staff team
- Work as part of a management team
- Work as an integral part of a team and the community
- Coordinate and prioritize responsibilities and activities
- Knowledge of word processing and other software including in-house database systems and office equipment operations
- Ability to speak a second language an asset
- Understanding issues related to the voluntary sector
