The Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association was founded in 1902 in Stonewall, Manitoba as a grass roots organization dedicated to improving the working conditions of Postmasters in rural Manitoba. CPAA grew from a local organization to a national association that is the second largest bargaining unit representing employees of Canada Post Corporation.

The Association represents Canada Post employees who work in rural post offices. There are approximately 5,204 full and part-time employees who are members of CPAA. In addition, there are approximately 2,246 term employees. The actual number of employees varies as members retire or resign and positions are staffed by the Corporation.

We are currently recruiting for a Finance and Administrative Assistant. This position is based out of our Ottawa office. The Finance and Administrative Assistant assists the Office Manager in managing, processing various accounts, transactions and other related administrative tasks. This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week.

General Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes computerized systems and a variety of software (Accpac, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Assists for all tasks related to administration and bookkeeping
  • Processes and prepare financial transactions, accounts payables, accounts receivables, vouchers, etc.
  • Provides support in preparing the financial reports in the accounting and finance system as per instructions. (list of cheques, bank reconciliation, month end reports, etc.)
  • Assists in preparation of budgets.
  • Prepares all documents for audit and coordinate the audit for national and branches

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and processes payroll records and reports for accounting of salaries and wages due, accruals, deductions and other payroll functions.
  • Maintains various payroll records such as timecard sheets, automatic bank deposit authorizations, payroll journals and ledger.
  • Calculates pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves.
  • Investigates and resolve any discrepancies in payroll
  • Prepares all remittance to the governments (salary deductions, ONEHT, etc.)
  • Prepares T4, record of employment, etc.
  • Professional degree in administration and finance
  • Knowledge of Accpac software is an asset but not essential
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting
  • Ability to organize work, take on a multitude of tasks and set priorities
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision as well as with a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment and exercise discretion when it comes to handle confidential information.
  • Must be fluently bilingual in English and French; oral and written.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite; Word Excel, Outlook and Power Point, Accpac (Sage 300)
